Eye Level A youth-led narrative shift from within Un cambio de narrativa liderado por las jóvenes
A chance for children, especially girls, to express themselves without a filter. In Gulu, Uganda, girls from the MOJA community pick up cameras and tell their own stories, from their own eye height.

There is a moment when a child stops speaking, because no one is listening.
Children are seen. Rarely heard.
Never the authors.Las niñas son vistas. Rara vez escuchadas.
Nunca las autoras.
Children, especially girls in marginalised contexts, are often left out of the stories told about them. They are spoken about, but not listened to. Represented, but not self-representing. Included, but not leading.
Between Africa and Europe, this imbalance is reinforced by narratives produced from outside that shape how African childhood is seen. Narrative is not neutral. It defines visibility, value and power.
Define visibilidad, valor y poder.
Change the height of the camera, and you change the structure of power.
Eye Level is a collaborative visual art project by Emmanuel Odongkara (Uganda) and Eva Gamallo (Spain), developed within MOJA, a social impact organisation working with girls and their families in Gulu, Northern Uganda. By placing cameras in the hands of girls from the MOJA community, the project moves them from being the subjects of other people's lenses to being the authors of their own realities.
Filming from their own eye height, with no imposed themes, the girls build confidence, communication and self-advocacy along with technical skills. Their material carries a visual grammar professionals cannot replicate: fragmentation, closeness to the ground and an unselfconscious honesty.
The finished work is a two-part installation: a three-channel video and a series of large-format photographs, made to be exhibited together or travel independently.

This is not a project brought into a community. It grew from within one. The collaboration between Uganda and Spain is a dialogue: Emmanuel leads everything on the ground, Eva leads the form of the finished installation, and every editorial decision is shared.
